M.A. in Health and Human Services Administration

Channel your passion to help others by developing the skills to lead in health and human services and face the complex day-to-day and strategic demands of helping others. The program can be completed within two years, either on campus in Minnesota or online—when and where it's most convenient for you. Coursework, credits, and program rigor are the same for the online and on-campus programs.
 

The M.A. in Health and Human Services Administration program is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (MN BENHA). The program provides an optional practicum to prepare you for licensure as a Long-Term Care Administrator in Minnesota.*

In two years, you learn where and when it’s best for you—in online courses or on campus in Minnesota. You can emerge from this program as a leader who’s ready to meet the complex and constantly changing needs of health and human services organizations.

Provide operational leadership and management to promote organizational quality and sustainability.

Develop financial acumen to contribute to the vitality and viability of healthcare or long-term care in human services organizations.

Integrate knowledge of organizational design, governance, and public policy into healthcare or long-term care in human services administrations.

  • Describe and influence the creation of public policy

Develop ethical leadership skills and dispositional attitudes to manage projects and collaborations, with a focus on system redesign and application of advanced technologies.

Each course will contain specific learning outcomes that are mapped to the program learning outcomes. Each course will contain time estimates for readings and activities for assessment purposes.

Practicums for Optional Nursing Home Licensure (4 Credits)

If you plan to take the Minnesota Nursing Home Administrators licensing exam, you will complete these four practicum courses.

HS750 – Nursing Home Practicum 1 (200–250 hours)
HS751 – Nursing Home Practicum 2 (250 hours)
HS752 – Nursing Home Practicum 3 (250 hours)
HS753 – Nursing Home Practicum 4 (250 hours)

Minnesota: As of July 24, 2013, the M.A. in Health and Human Services Administration program has been accredited by the Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (MN BENHA) as meeting education requirements for Nursing Home Administrator to prepare students to take the Minnesota Nursing Home Administrators licensing exam in the state of Minnesota. Students who wish to pursue licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator in Minnesota must meet the state's practicum requirements and pass state and national exams.
 

Other States: It is the responsibility of individual students to verify requirements with their state licensing board and with the National Association of Examiners of Long-Term Care Administrators Board (NAB) http://www.nabweb.org/state-licensure-requirements.
